I guess if I can put it into words it would be that AC has been moving more towards an open world collecaton the further it moves from AC1.ĪC1 also had the best version of the future story before it was ruined entirely to the point where we don't care anymore. I know this statement might not make sense to most but It is just the way I see it. Other games in the series, except AC2, felt more arcade-y and middle of the pack games were AC1 felt like a new AAA.

While I have positive memories of playing the original, I'm sure I would find the formula quite outdated and boring these days, so I would rather a remake from the ground up that retold Altaïr's story in a richer way with more variety of objectives but without compromising the freedom to approach your targets too much.Īnd please, I know this is too much to ask, but if you could refrain from useless replies like "Neither, make new games" or nonconstructive drive-bys like "AC sucks", that would be much appreciated. With all that in mind, how'd you prefer Ubisoft handle a new release of the game: a remaster that addresses some of the issues of the original releases or a remake that reworks the game to be more in line with modern AC standards? Most of the game followed that formula and was only broken up occasionally by plot-driven segments/cutscenes, as well as the modern day segments. Once you had enough info, you were then allowed to kill said target but how you did it was up to you. You were given a target but before you could reach that target, you first had to complete a number of smaller objectives to collect intel on that person. While later AC entries adopted a narrative-driven approach to completing missions, AC1 was, for all intents and purposes, a Crusades themed Hitman game with a semi-open world map.
It's not a game that does a good job of keeping you engaged in long sessions, due to the lack of variety in mission objectives, although it could be argued that was a consequence of the freeform approach to completing objectives. Personally I enjoyed it back in the day but definitely agree with the general criticism. It is also a rather divisive game, with many considering it a flawed gem, while others call it boring and repetitive.

Despite being the starting point to Ubisoft's humongous franchise, they've given it no love since the PC release.
The original Assassin's Creed is nearly 13 years old (released in November of 2007) and while basically every last-gen entry has been remastered to current systems, the first entry has not.
